Displaying Edits by Date

Terry notes that when editing a document with Track Changes turned on, he can display the edits made by a particular editor. He wonders if there is a way to display only the edits made on a particular date, regardless of whom the editor was.

There isn't an easy way to do this. You can, however, easily see the dates on which various edits were made. All you need to do is display the Reviewing Pane, instead of viewing the edits in the document itself. To display the Reviewing Pane, click the tool of the same name on the Reviewing toolbar.

With the Reviewing Pane visible, note that it lists all the edits in the document. Each edit is accompanied by the name of the reviewer who made the edit and the date on which that edit was made. Double-click an edit and Word takes you to the point in the document where the edit occurs.

You can open the doc in libreoffice, which allows sorting changes by date in its review window.

Allen,
FYI, "Reviewing Pane Horizontal" shows the dates, but "Reviewing Pane Vertical" does not:

Over the years, in my searches for answers to hard Word questions, I usually end-up at your web-site.
Thanks for all of the useful info.

BTW: I cited some of your articles in a how-to document I recently wrote on Word templates:

Thanks,

Hi Allen,

I've been searching through your articles, but also on the clock :) so maybe leaving a comment is more time effective!

I am trying to find out if there is a way to insert/create a table in Word that will list the "version" dates as it's saved? I know how to insert a single 'last modified/saved' date in the footer - but I'm looking for a table to show historical release dates.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

For anyone still running up against this issue, there is a work around. Save a copy of the current version and the version from which you want to see changes which you can get from the document history (Word 2016). Accept all changes in both documents under the review/ track changes menu and then do a compare between the two documents under the "review" menu. This will show all of the changes that occurred in the document between the two versions (dates).

Same with Word 2013 - date only appears when using the horizontal pane.

There is a bug in Microsoft Word 2010. In a specific section, a user added some text on a date (Date1). Later the same user added some more text another date (Date2). While observing the Reviewing Pane (in Horizontal mode), though it shows the date, it only shows the date as date1 for that section. It does not show the Date2 on which additional text was inserted. In fact for the text inserted on Date2, it shows as Date1 in Reviewing pane

If required, I can attach a screenshot.

In Word 2010, the date appears only when using the Horizontal pane. It does not appear on the Vertical pane.
