Printing an Outline

Summary: Outlining is a great way to develop the content of your document. If you need to, you can even print the outline and only the outline—without all the content. (This tip works with Microsoft Word 97, Word 2000, Word 2002, Word 2003, and Word 2007.)

If you are using Outline view, Word will print only the heading levels you have chosen to display. This means you can print an outline for your document easily and quickly. To print a single copy of your outline, follow these steps:

Make sure your outline shows all the headings you want displayed.
Make sure each heading is formatted in the appropriate manner.
Click on the Print tool on the toolbar or, if you are using Word 2007, click the Office button and then click Print.
