Setting Embellishment Spacing in the Equation Editor

Summary: Adjusting the spacing between characters and character embellishments. (This tip works with Microsoft Word 6, Word 95, Word 97, Word 2000, Word 2002, and Word 2003.)

When using the Equation Editor, you can control the spacing between a character in the equation and any embellishments over that character. You specify this in points, as follows:

Choose Spacing from the Format menu. The Equation Editor displays the Spacing dialog box. (Click here to see a related figure.)
Click on the Embellishment Gap box (you will need to scroll down some in the list of spacing settings). The Equation Editor changes the Spacing dialog box.
Enter a gap value in points.
Click on OK.
