Determining the Number of Bookmarks Defined in a Document

Summary: If you develop a macro that needs to work with bookmarks defined in a document, it is inevitable that you will need a way to determine the number of bookmarks actually existing. Here's how to get that count. (This tip works with Microsoft Word 97, Word 2000, Word 2002, Word 2003, and Word 2007.)

You can determine the number of bookmarks defined in a document by using the Count property with the Bookmarks collection object. This is done using the following VBA syntax:

x = ActiveDocument.Bookmarks.Count

where x is the variable you can then use in other VBA macro lines.
