Editing the Color Palette in Chart

Summary: Microsoft Chart uses a palette from which it pulls the colors it uses. Learn how to change the palette. (This tip works with Microsoft Word 6, Word 95, Word 97, Word 2000, Word 2002, and Word 2003.)

Microsoft Graph allows you to create full-color charts based on any of the colors contained in a palette. If you desire, you can modify the colors in the palette. This is done in the following manner if you are using Word 6 or Word 95:

  1. Choose Color Palette from the Format menu. Microsoft Graph displays the Color Palette dialog box.
  2. Select the color you wish to change by clicking on it.
  3. Click on Edit. Microsoft Graph displays the color chooser.
  4. Change the color by clicking in the color chooser (the large color box) or adjusting the color values in the six definition boxes.
  5. When you have selected the color desired, click on OK.
  6. Click on OK again in the Color Palette box. Your changed color is now available to use in your chart.

If you are using Word 97 or a later version, the process is slightly different:

  1. Choose Options from the Tools menu. Microsoft Graph displays the Graph Options dialog box.
  2. Make sure the Color tab is selected. (Click here to see a related figure.)
  3. Select the color you wish to change by clicking on it.
  4. Click on Modify. Microsoft Graph displays the Colors dialog box.
  5. Change the color by clicking in the color chooser (the large color matrix).
  6. When you have selected the color desired, click on OK.
  7. Click OK again in the Graph Options dialog box. Your changed color is now available to use in your chart.

Tip #686 applies to Microsoft Word versions: 6 | 95 | 97 | 2000 | 2002 | 2003
