Specifying a Font in WordArt

Summary: WordArt is a great add-in that allows you to insert creative wording into your document. This tip shows how you can change the font used by WordArt to display its text. (This tip works with Microsoft Word 97, Word 2000, Word 2002, Word 2003, and Word 2007.)

WordArt is a program that allows you to treat text as a graphic. You can use the program to add special effects and flourishes to text and then insert the text in your document. By changing the font used by WordArt, you can greatly change the appearance of your WordArt object. To change fonts, follow these general steps:

  1. Select the WordArt object by clicking on it. In versions of Word prior to Word 2007, the WordArt toolbar should appear. In Word 2007 the Format tab should appear on the ribbon (make sure it is selected).
  2. Click on the Edit Text tool. WordArt displays the Edit WordArt Text dialog box. (Click here to see a related figure.)
  3. Use the Font pull-down list to select a font to use.
  4. Change the font size, as desired.
  5. Use Bold or Italics, as desired.
  6. Click on OK. WordArt updates your WordArt object.

You should note that when you change the font, it is changed for all of the text in your WordArt object. This means that you don't have as much latitude as you do in Word itself, where you can modify the font used in each individual character, if desired.

Tip #677 applies to Microsoft Word versions: 97 | 2000 | 2002 | 2003 | 2007
