Turning on Large Icons in a Macro

Summary: Word includes the ability to display toolbar icons in two sizes: regular and large. You can turn on the large icons by using the Customize dialog box, as described in this tip. (This tip works with Microsoft Word 97, Word 2000, Word 2002, and Word 2003.)

Depending on the resolution on your monitor and your personal preferences, you can adjust the size that Word uses for displaying icons by following these steps:

  1. Choose Customize from the Tools menu. Word displays the Customize dialog box.
  2. Make sure the Options tab is displayed. (Click here to see a related figure.)
  3. Select or clear the Large Icons check box, as desired.
  4. Click Close.

You can also, if you prefer, change the icon size in a macro. This is done by setting the .LargeButtons property of the CommandBars collection to either True or False. The correct syntax follows:

CommandBars.LargeButtons = True

This line turns on the large icons, whereas setting the property to False turns them off.

Tip #190 applies to Microsoft Word versions: 97 | 2000 | 2002 | 2003
